Myanmar authorities fined the Rohingya inhabitants of the southern city of Gawduthara Maungdaw in Arakan State to 250 thousand Myanmar Kyat on charges of renovating the town mosque.

Agency correspondent reported that the authorities demanded that people in the beginning an amount of half a million kyat before retreating and agree to half the amount, noting that residents in the town complain about the arbitrariness of the authorities in dealing with them, especially with regard to restoration houses, explaining that many houses in the town refrain owners from do any reform measures or renovate their homes from the fear of the imposition of heavy fines on them, despite their fears of the risk of collapse and fall at any moment.

It is worth mentioning that the Myanmar authorities prevented Rohingya in Arakan State to carry out the restoration of their homes and mosques since the violence contrived against them in 2012.
