Myanmar army prevents crossing of Rohingya to Bangladesh

A spokesman for the European Rohingya Council, Anita Shug, said Myanmar army forces are preventing the fleeing Rohingya refugees from crossing  River Naf to the Bangladeshi side.
Shug told Anadolu that the army prevented the boats, prompting many Rohingyas to descend into the river and try to cross the pool, which led to their drowning, noting that the rest are facing the risk of starvation.
Local sources said that thousands of Rohingya people were trapped in border areas with Bangladesh.
“Many of them risk their lives by trying to cross the river at night,” she said.
The Myanmar army continues to burn the villages of Rohingya Muslims in Arakan province, Shug said.
In the framework of the program, the official program of urgent aid to the refugees by Turkish government, it’s representative Mr. Ibrahim, reports that Bangladesh’s request from Myanmar not to allow the arrival of refugees.
He added that Bangladesh would “not be able to bear more burdens.”
“If the border is kept open, some 100,000 refugees may come to Bangladesh, so the Myanmar army does not allow the refugees to cross into the Bangladeshi side,” he said in a statement to Anadolu.
In the same context, he stressed that Turkey is the country providing most humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya refugees, and has a major role in the relief for the Muslims in Arakan province in western Myanmar.
He explained that the cessation of the Turkey distributed aid and blankets to four thousand families.
He pointed out that the place where the refugee camps of the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh has been called the “Turkish hill”, in reference to the volume of assistance provided by Turkey to them.
Since August 25, Myanmar’s army and Buddhist militias have been committing crimes, attacks and brutal massacres against the Muslim minority of Rohingya, which killed thousands of people, local activists said.
The massive violations have also led some 519,000 Rohingyas to take refuge in neighboring Bangladesh, according to the latest UN figures.
