Myanmar’s army chief, General Min Aung Hlaing, said in his Official Facebook page that he had made it clear: “the real situation” in the troubled northern Arakan state during his meeting with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Wednesday.

He also reported that he briefed Tilerson on “the real reasons” for more than 600,000 Rohingya Muslims to flee from Myanmar to neighboring Bangladesh, without giving details on Facebook after the meeting with Tillerson.

The US State Department has yet to comment on the meeting in the capital Naypidaw.

A report published by two human rights organizations on Wednesday referred to “growing evidence” of the Rohingya genocide in a wave of violence by the Myanmar army in response to insurgent attacks in August 2017.

The army denies any “human rights violations” by its forces.
