Some 38 non-governmental organisation (NGO) volunteers under the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) have collected one tonne of items for the Rohingya migrants at the Belantik Immigration camp in Sik, Kedah.

MBM president Mua’amar Ghadafi Jamal Jamaludin said it is a five-day humanitarian aid mission programme and the items will be sent on Sunday to the immigration camp, along with 24 MBM volunteers.

“We would like to call upon all Malaysians to view this issue from the perspective of human dignity to join the mission and lend a helping hand to the refugees who are stranded here,” he said.

“Therefore, we have collected clothes, toiletries, milk powder, pampers, sanitary pads and mineral water for the more than 1,700 refugees being held there,” he said.

However, Mua’amar also expressed concern over the refugees who are unwell and will discuss the issue with the Kedah Immigration Department director Mohamad Yusri Hashim during the five-day humanitarian aid mission.

“Our second mission (still under discussion) is to fund medical aid to the refugees in poor health. We have raised a total of RM20,000 and are still seeking more,” he said.
