Most Rohingya households throughout the entire Mrauk U township have been without food for almost ten days as the government intensifies the blockade in the area.…
In early July, the local administration issued an order preventing Rohingyas from using the paths that lead to the waterways. The blockade was imposed effectively from the day after Eid.
The intention is to prevent the Rohingyas from going fishing. Since the riots of 2012, all lands belonging to Rohingyas have been confiscated and fishing is the only means of livelihood for the community.
Now as Rohingyas are prevented from fishing, there is no means to provide food. As most people are dependent on a daily income, the result has been starvation.
