Rohingya Muslim men in Kiladong, Maungdaw South have fled their homes in the aftermath of the murder of a pro government man.

Sultan, the Aishwaramu of the area was killed before dawn on Saturday.

Following the murder, scores of policemen flooded the area from the early hours. Sultan’s family members including his father, mother and wife were escorted to the police station for any information leading to information of the murderers.

Family members have however been unable to identify anyone as their faces were covered.

However Sultan’s wife alleged that Md Harun, a man living nearby might have been among the attackers.

On hearing the information, police immediately raided Harun’s house. He had however fled beforehand. In his absence, police slapped his wife and took away everything in the house. The house was also vandalised by the police.

Local sources say that Harun could not have been involved in the murder as many people had seen him during the dawn time when Sultan was killed.

Police then launched an operation in the all the houses near the murder scene. Everybody had fled by then and there were no arrests. Police however smashed everything and looted valuables.

Kiladong has remained tense since January 2014 when scores of Muslims, mainly women and children were killed by a Rakhine mob backed by security forces.
