Myanmar’s House of Representatives has agreed to consider a proposal calling for tougher security measures in northern Arakan state, which means further repression against Rohingya Muslims.
Lawmaker MP Daw Khin Saw Wai in Arakan of Rathidaung urged the government of the Union to intensify administrative and security tactics and cited the killings in Maungdaw, Buthidaung and Rathidaung towns, which they blamed on Rohingya, which Muslims deny and accuse the army and police of committing the crimes to accuse Muslims.
In some areas, Rohingya villages are being surrounded by Buddhist villages in the area and are considered a “cow at the mercy of a tiger,” MP Daw Khin Saw Wai said that “So there is a need to take immediate action to control the situation for sovereignty,” she said.
Rohingya activists has criticized Wai’s remarks and said that what is happening in Arakan is the exact opposite. Rohingya villages are besieged, destroyed and killed. Muslims are weak and peaceful, and this can not happen with a Buddhist majority in the state.
