India and China have supported counter-terrorism operations by the Myanmar authorities in Arakan, which have caused the fleeing of more than 400,000 Rohingya Muslims to neighboring countries. Of course, this support ensures that the United Nations does not impose sanctions on it.
Since the start of operations in Arakan three weeks ago, the number of refugees to neighboring countries has exceeded 420,000, most of them to the Cox-Bazar region bordering Bangladesh. Refugees confirm to Western media that government forces are burning villages with rocket launchers.
On the other hand, the Myanmar leadership, announced that Myanmar will not stop the special operations until it is sure that the threat of terrorism is gone. He confirmed that the population of 176 Rohingya villages out of a total of 471 completely left their homes, and 34 others partially.
According to them, the burning of houses by gunmen from the Rohingya who were the reason for the start of these operations. The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, saw these statements as incompatible with reality. He accused the Myanmar authorities of ethnic cleansing and said: “If third of the Rohingyas are forced to leave the country, what can this be called?”. He was supported by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein.

On the other hand, India and China, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, supported Myanmar’s actions. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced during his visit to Myanmar that India supports Myanmar’s counterterrorism measures. “China supports Myanmar’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in Arakan,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Guang Xuan said.
