Rathedaung: Hundreds of Rohingyas were forced to meet risky-life with uncertain future in Yung Pin Gyi (Muzai) village of Rathedaung Township, Arakan State, our correspondent reported.
76 families from Yung Pin Gyi were made homeless on 25th October 2012 during the second round of state-sponsored violence against Rohingya in Arakan State.
Their houses were burnt to ashes, their properties were looted and destroyed while many of the Rohingyas were killed, slaughtered and jailed said a local victim.
mong them, 56 out of 76 families were placed in IDP camp in the same village and 20 other families were not recognized by the authority and made them out of favor even to receive any sort of assistance come through humanitarian NGOs.
But, those 20 families took shelter nearby IDP camp with self-made small huts.
On Wednesday 18th March 2015 at about 2PM, U Maung Maung, Township Administration Officer approached to the IDP camp and ordered all the people to attend an urgent meeting. During the meeting, he dictated to destroy the camp and go back to their own land where their old houses were located in the village.
While he was politely asked that “Our houses were burnt to ashes and we do not have money to rebuild our homes again. So, how could it be possible to return and rebuild our houses”?
The officer replied them “we will provide each family Ten-Hundred Thousand Kyats (10.00000) as compensation but now we will pay eight-hundred thousand (800,000) cash and two-hundred thousand (200,000) will be given at the time of photography when your houses will completely be built up.
The aforesaid amount of money had been handed over to 56 families and destroyed the camp-sheds a local IDP confirmed over the phone call.
While raised question over remaining 20 families, the officer said we cannot talk about those who are not enlisted. Those vulnerable 20 families remained out of favor and were again made homeless and hopeless.
The instruction given by the officer to rebuild their houses is 18ft long, 17ft wide and 8ft in height.
There are total 1772 people in Yung Pin Gyi village which is located nearby Anauk-Pyin another Rohingya village situated inside most of the Rakhine villages.
There were only 24 Rohingya villages in Rathedaung Township amidst 24 Rakhine village tracts. Three of the Rohingya villages were uprooted during the violence against Rohingya in 2012 and placed them in IDP camps in Shilkali (Chinkali) village located nearby southern-most Maungdaw. Now, “the besieged Rohingya community in Rathedaung is under pressures of the Rakhine extremists and the government forces”.
