The racist attacks against the Muslims of Myanmar have not ended as a group of Buddhists attacked a mosque in Sri Lanka on the backdrop of sectarian tensions in the town of Ampara, the province of Digana.

The Sri Lankan police said several people were injured in clashes between Buddhists and the Muslim minority as tensions between the two communities increased after the mosque was set ablaze.

The mosque was heavily damaged and security forces were deployed in the eastern town of Ampara to control the unrest after the attack by a group of Sinhalese.

Hardline Buddhist groups claim that Muslims there force the population to embrace Islam and destroy Buddhist monuments.
