EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Federica Mogherini discussed with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grande the situation of Rohingya refugees.
Mogherini office said in a statement that the meeting with Grandi discussed the refugee crisis of the Rohingya minority, noting that they should be allowed to return voluntarily, safely and dignitatively to their places of origin in Myanmar, stressing that UNHCR should be fully involved in the process.
For her part, Mogherini affirmed the EU’s continued commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to those in need and helping to find a long-term solution to the crisis.
The European Union will continue its close partnership with UNHCR and the broader United Nations system in promoting multilateralism and global governance and helping all those in need of international protection.
