The Consultative Council of Malaysian Islamic Organizations collaborated with NGOs in Bangladesh to establish an aid coordination center to assist Rohingya refugees in refugee camps in the city of Coxs-Bazeer, Bangladesh.

“The center was set up last Friday and started to operate,” Vice President Ahmed Ramzi Suleiman told reporters at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Sunday.

“This center will distribute food aid and the needs of refugees in these camps,” he said.

During his experience in these camps, Ramzi described the humanitarian crisis faced by the refugees in these camps as very high, with the number of refugees increasing by about 20,000 per day.
“The camps are now very crowded and we can see that their number is almost half a million and growing daily.
“The food crisis in these camps has become very severe and some refugees have had to eat the grass and run behind aid vehicles when they enter these camps,” he said.

He said the council planned to raise around 5 million ringgit donations for the preparation of food and clean water to these camps next month.
