China’s oil pipeline project in Myanmar entered into operation after more than two years of delay following a bilateral agreement reached during a visit by Myanmar’s President U Htin Kyaw to China, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Mr. Liu Zhenmin said.
The $ 1.5 billion pipeline has been in place since 2014, but its start-up has been delayed due to a tax dispute.
The pipeline starts from Myanmar’s Madi island and extends to 771 kilometers and ends in Yunnan Province. It is part of China’s “One Belt and One Way” strategic project, which aims to strengthen Beijing’s relations with the world through rail, Pipes and power grids.
Immediately after the agreement, one of the oil tankers began to unload a load of 140 thousand tons of crude oil at the end of the line from the island of “Madi”, according to a source told the agency “Anatolia”.
