Distribution of Malaysian aid to Rohingyas starts off

Cox’s Bazar district administration has formally begun distributing Malaysian relief items among Rohingya refugees in Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas.

The 1,472 tonnes of relief aid will gradually be distributed among 15,000 Rohingya families.

The relief distribution was carried out simultaneously at the Ukhiya and Leda camps of Teknaf around noon on Thursday.

Around 300 families in each camp received the aid on the first day, confirmed Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Md Saiful Islam Majumdar, also the head of the relief distribution coordination committee.

The administration will be able to distribute the items among 700-1,000 families every day. The 1,472 tonnes of relief aid will gradually be distributed among 15,000 Rohingya families – 5,500 in Teknaf and 9,500 in Ukhiya – on the basis of tokens.

Malaysian aid ship Nautical Aliya arrived in Chittagong on February 13 carrying the aid.
