The head of the Arakan Rohingya Union, Dr. Wakar Uddin said the images of abuse presented to the media reflect a small part of the truth, and the Buddhists and government officials of Myanmar celebrate drinking champagne as they follow the images. This came in a statement to an Anadolu reporter during his participation in a special event on the crisis of the Rohingya Muslims in the state of Konya (central Turkey), in which he discussed the suffering of the Rohingya in Arakan province, Myanmar.

Dr. Waqar Uddin reported that the Myanmar government and Buddhist gangs are committing brutal crimes against Rohingya.

He added that “the number of Muslims in the country about 3 million, the number of those who are subjected to injustice are about 500 thousand, where they are forced as a result of pressure from the government to leave their land.”

The practices of the Myanmar Government amounted to genocide, seeking to obliterate the Rohingya identity by reducing the number of Rohingya and eliminating their historical features.

“The Myanmar authorities shut down the houses of worship of the Rohingya, do not allow Muslims to worship, and transformed a historic mosque in the area from the 17th century into a Buddhist temple,” he said. “These practices seek to purify Arakan from Muslims and transform the entire region into Buddhism.”
He pointed out that the roots of Rohingya in Arakan dates back to the seventh century AD, and  said this is documented in many historical references.

He explained that the international community wants Rohingya to live as first class citizens in their country in a manner compatible with human rights in the environment of security and stability.
He revealed that the Rohingya Muslims have been subjected to great injustice in recent years, as “their villages are destroyed by bulldozers which is more than 350 villages.”
“Arakan’s violations today are very similar to the genocide that took place in the former Bosnia and Herzegovina, where mass graves were discovered there, as in Arakan, where there are many mass graves.”“The province of Arakan has witnessed very painful stories, the crimes that affected women, girls and children, are of the kind that is ungrateful.”
The number of Rohingya refugees in the camps is about 700,000, nearly 60 per cent of them children, and they live in very difficult conditions and suffer from food shortages.
He stressed that the Myanmar government does not grant the right to life to the Rohingya. “They are forced to use Buddhist names, they want to blur their identity and hinder their marriage.
If a Rohingya wanted to marry, the period of his authorization would be 10 years.”He added that the Myanmar authorities imposed a “limit of the children” on the Rohingya families, and if a third child gave birth to a third child, it forced them to emigrate. He pointed out that “the authorities rob the Rohingya of their lands and fields, and arrests, torture and executions.”
