Global Rohingya Center delegation (GRC) arrived to the Swiss city of Geneva on Saturday to attend the 28th session meeting of the Board of the United Nations Human Rights Council, to stand with the issue of Rohingya Muslims and to restore their rights usurped by the Government of Burma.
Director of projects and conferences of the center Omar Shafi said that the delegation will be participating in the meetings held in the Core Halls of the Council and will present a number of issues relating to nationality and the government’s refusal to include Rohingya muslims in the referendum on the constitution and general elections that is to be held in November 2015, and the abolition of the white cards given to Rohingya after the withdrawal of citizenship card in 1990, and racial discrimination against them.
The center is due to organize a seminar entitled “Rohingya… A world conscience’s crisis” on Tuesday, March 17 with the participation of the Director General of the Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU) Professor Waqar Uddin and Congress Chairman of Union Dr. Tahir Mohammad Siraj in addition to those are interested in Rohingya cause.
The center will also organize a protest Broken Chair Square in front of the UN building on Wednesday, March 18 to condemn the Burmese government’s policy in dealing with the Rohingya issue in Arakan State and also against trying to drop the ethnicity of the list of ethnic groups recognized in the country through force and torture by saying that they are from Bangladesh and non-native to Burma.
