Myanmar government lead by Aung San Suu Kyi and the concerned authorities in the country to discuss the challenges they face in the implementation of local development projects in Arakan State, including the challenges of the presence of the Muslim minority “Rohingya.”
According to the newspaper Irrawaddy, a meeting was held last Thursday by Suu Kyi in Naypyidaw, saying that the cooperation between the Federal Government and the Government of Arakan State is necessary for the implementation of development projects rapidly.
And Arakan State suffer grossly as it is underdeveloped after decades of neglect under the governments led by the army, it is also at the forefront of the challenges of verification of citizenship process and the granting of national citizenship cards under the Citizenship Act of 1982, to Rohingya. As the government only allow Rohingya residents in Arakan State to apply for citizenship on the condition of identifying themselves as “Bengali”, a term which implies that they have migrated from neighboring Bangladesh, which is in denial of many historical documents.
