Abdul Hafeez Abdul Muttalib is 55 years old, a Rohingya fisherman from Rathedaung township of Arakan state who was killed by extremist Buddhists yet to be identified.
Abdul Hafeez father of 8 daughters and a little baby boy had left for fishing in the morning near his home river after impatient to see his children who are starving and crying by the severity of hunger in the light of the ban imposed on the Rohingya by the Burmese authorities to get out of their homes to earn a living. After several hours, a number of villagers found his bloodied body close to the river, and on his body there were marks of beatings and torture according to sources.
“His whole family depends on his daily income and they are suffering from poverty and hardship under government harassment imposed on the Rohingyas in Arakan” said a local Rohingya in Rathedaung.
The villagers raised money to fulfill the demand made by the military commander and gave 10,000 kyats to him. So, the dead body was handed over to the villagers.
His funeral was arranged in his village. At about 4pm Myanmar Standard Time, his funeral was completed” he continued.
It is noteworthy that the Burmese government imposed a curfew on the Rohingyas in Arakan and it has been extended for two years now, at the end of each period the aim of imposing an economic blockade and starve Rohingya people and pushing them towards migration from the country.
