A landmine explosion along the southeastern border of Bangladesh has killed a Buddhist man and injured five members of his family recently as they tried to sneak into Myanmar, officials said.
These mines have long killed and injured many Rohingya Muslims who were crossing Bangladesh during the Myanmar military campaign and reported that the mines were planted by Myanmar troops to prevent the Rohingya from returning home.
Colonel Iqbal Hussain, commander of Bangladesh’s border guards, said they had rescued a family trying to cross into Myanmar.
Officials said 12 people had died in landmine explosions along the border since early September. They said that the mines were placed in a clear attempt to prevent the Rohingya from returning to Myanmar.
Bangladesh’s former ambassador to Myanmar, Anup Kumar Shakma, a Buddhist, told BenarNews that Myanmar have attracted poor and illiterate Buddhists by promising a better future in Myanmar.
