Assistant Director-General of the Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU) Mr. Abdullah Ma’arouf al-Arkani said that Rohingya live in a tragic situation unlike any other people in the world, noting that they are considered the number one in famine, poverty, oppression and apartheid in forced displacement and arbitrary detentions, from every stateless minority in the world.
Al-Arkani said that the Rohingyas are considered the largest group of victims to persecutions by human traffickers.
They are exploited as forced laborers by the Myanmar army. The crisis is not modern but it is the “longest crisis and the fastest growing tragedy” we have been facing crisis since 1942 for more than 7 decades, and it is considered a forgotten case.
Al-Arkani pointed to the need for the international community to come out with binding, practical and realistic decisions at the same time. The countries of the world should meet the support this issue needs and icondemning Myanmar for crimes against humanity. The international community must prove its credibility in the causes of Muslims. Which would require them to shoulder their responsibilities to this cause, by the issuance of a draft resolution condemning Myanmar for crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing, the application of Chapter VII of the United Nations charters and a safe area in Arakan for Rohingya under the protection of the United Nations and the entry of Peacekeeping troops to protect civilians, and allowing humanitarian organizations and the media to reach the affected areas and securing and returning displaced people from Bangladesh to their original villages in Arakan (safe, sustainable and dignified) as the Security Council has stated.
