Assaulted and fined for home improvement

A man has been assaulted and fined by police for erecting a fence around his house.

Police came to the house of Abdus Salam (49) s/o Abdul Majid from Firing dong, Rathedaung on Saturday.

He was then beaten in front of his family members.

They left after the payment of 270,000 kyats.

Rohingya Muslims are forbidden from making changes to their houses without government approval.

Locals say that Salam was on bad terms with local tabbe Baish Kutu who might have pointed him out to the police.
