The Director-General of the Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU) Professor Wakaruddin bin Masihuddin met Tuesday in Washington with a number of senior US officials to discuss the Rohingya issue and its developments on the international, political and local scene.
Among the most prominent were US Deputy Secretary of State for Southeast Asian Affairs Patrick Murphy, Deputy Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Scott Bisbee and a number of foreign ministry staff.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the 10th OIC Foreign Ministers’ Conference held in Dhaka, including the Gambia-led commission of inquiry into the crime against humanity in Arakan state.
The two sides also discussed Bangladesh’s extraordinary efforts in caring for more than 1.1 million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and the challenges they face in dealing with a historic crisis and the state of repatriation.
He reviewed the implications of the visit of the UN Security Council delegation to Bangladesh and Myanmar, the suffering of the Rohingya population in Arakan, and the new developments on the ground in the state.
