The head of the Arakan Rohingya Union Professor Wakar Uddin said Myanmar’s army and government wanted to take Islam out of the country.
This came in a speech during a seminar entitled “The Rohingya Crisis in Arakan”, organized by the Sulaiman Demir Cultural Center in the state of Konya in the center of the Turkey on Monday.
Waqar Uddin noted that the Myanmar government “institutionalized the policy of genocide in Arakan.”
He stressed that the crisis faced by Muslims Arakan is not the first of its kind, adding: “A thousand years ago this injustice practiced in those territories.”
“There are death fields in Arakan, the government of Myanmar and the Buddhist gangs are committing murders that are unacceptable to humanity, and there are intolerable and unacceptable scenes.”
He pointed out that the United Nations described what happened in Arakan as “systematic genocide”.
“There are serious violations of human rights, there is no freedom to travel and worship, to go from one village to another requires permission, mosques are closed, worship is forbidden and people are given Buddhis names by force,” he said.
“There is a humanitarian crisis affecting the whole world, and the refugee crisis affects other countries. Over the past two weeks, thousands of Rohingyas have arrived in Bangladesh.”
According to UN data, 688,000 Rohingya Muslims fled Arakan province to the neighboring state of Bangladesh from 25 August 2017 to 27 January 2018, following attacks by Myanmar army and extremist Buddhist militias, described by international organizations As a “campaign of ethnic cleansing”.
As a result of these attacks, at least 9,000 Rohingya people were killed in the same period, according to the international organization Doctors Without Borders.
