Iskandar Usman Al-Farlaky, a member of the Aceh Legislative Council, called on the central government to stop diplomatic relations with the Myanmar government.

“President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo must immediately take a stance,” Iskandar said in Aceh on Tuesday, November 22, 2016.

The request was related to the infraction of human rights against Rohingya.

According to Iskandar, Indonesia must be more assertive against Myanmar, instead of just sending a letter or condemning the tragedy on mass media. He also called on member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to impose economic sanctions against Myanmar. He also urged the government to recall the Indonesian Ambassador to Myanmar.

The Aceh Middle East Alumni Association (IKAT Aceh) also condemned violence and repressive actions against Rohingya. The organization demands the government, the OIC, and ASEAN countries leaders to take firm actions against the human rights violation.

IKAT Aceh chairman Fadhil Rahmi called on Aceh residents to pray for Rohingya Muslims to survive in such a condition until they can have peace.
