A Rohingya refugee in Bangladesh succumbed to his injuries after being robbed and stabbed, Saturday, in Balukali refugee camp in Bangladesh.
The victim has been identified as Hafiz Maulvi Muhammad Taher, 25. He was killed by the driver of a CNG three-wheeler he rented with his mother to visit his sick grandfather in Tanakhali refugee camp, Arakan News Agency, ANA, reporter explained.

When they reached the junction of the dead tree (Moragastala) near Balukhali refugee camp (11), the CNG driver stopped and robbed the victim and his mother. He stole 2,000 taka and a phone then stabbed the victim who died on spot.
People brought the body in front of the Camp in Charge (CIC) office in refugee camp (11) and informed the authorities, but no action was taken against the perpetrators, a refugee told ANA.
Such incidents are common in refugee camps in Bangladesh, as Rohingya are subjected to attacks and kidnappings for ransom, but authorities have not been taking sufficient precautions.
Rohingya elders called on fellow refugees not to travel long distances at inappropriate times or alone.

A Rohingya refugee told ANA that the incident has caused fear and sorrow in the Rohingya camps, adding that the victim’s family and others are demanding justice.
A Rohingya teacher was stabbed earlier this month by a criminal gang in the camps. Since the beginning of this year, there have been several incidents of assault against Rohingya in camps, including attacking a Rohingya child by unknowns on his way home from school in January, finding a corpse of a young Rohingya, and the murder of a Rohingya refugee in a camp in February.
More than one million Rohingya refugees live in the Cox’s Bazar area of Bangladesh, after fleeing genocide, violence and persecution by Myanmar military in 2017. The United Nations describes Cox’s Bazar as the largest refugee camp in the world.
