Three people were killed, due to floods caused by monsoon rains, in Myanmar.

The number of families forced to leave their homes across the country since the beginning of this month due to monsoon rains has reached 34,823 families, according to a statement by the Department of Assistance and Resettlement of Myanmar’s Ministry of Social Affairs.

The statement pointed to the closure of 200 schools temporarily throughout the country due to rain and floods, which affected at least 25,000 students.

The country’s meteorological agency predicted heavy rain would continue in the coming weeks and warned of further flooding.

Monsoon rains in Myanmar begin at the end of May and last until mid-October each year.
