Myanmar’s political leader Aung San Suu Kyi urged people in her country to understand the feelings and hopes of others for internal peace and to rid of the hate mentality.
“If we do not have this understanding, we can not work effectively for a successful democratic transition, unity and peace in the country.”
This came in her opening remarks at a forum on the Myanmar democratic transition, which began on Friday at the Myanmar International Conference Center
Suu Kyi stressed that her party has made efforts to succeed in establishing a democratic system, as there are people who gave their lives for independence, noting that reforms are never easy.
Suu Kyi said the country needed peace and development at the same time, denying that the country could go one without the other, in response to views that the most important issue was to achieve peace before development.
Suu Kyi noted that it gave priority to national ceasefire efforts while at the same time making efforts to develop the entire nation.
