The Director General of the Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU), Professor Wakaruddin bin Masihuddin, participated in the meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers on Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar on the sidelines of the annual coordination meeting held in New York under the chairmanship of the Secretary-General of the Organization, Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen.
Speaking at the meeting, Masihuddin spoke of the systematic atrocities against the Myanmar Muslim community of Rohingya, which amount to ethnic cleansing, as a grave and flagrant violation of international law. More than 420,000 Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh after their homes and places of worship were burnt.
Masihuddin called on the Contact Group to act immediately and expeditiously to stop the genocide committed against the Rohingya Muslims and to use diplomatic and economic relations.
The participants in the meeting held last week called upon the Government of Myanmar to fulfill its obligations under international law and human rights treaties, to take all measures to end the violence immediately, to prevent the excessive use of force against civilians and to stop acts of dispersion and discriminatory practices against the Muslims of Rohingya, continued attempts to obliterate their Islamic identity and culture, including their removal from household lists and the destruction of places of worship, institutions and homes belonging to Muslim minorities.
