Killing of at least five Rohingya Muslims and three others wounded in the latest case of violence taking place in the state of Arakan in Myanmar since Saturday night.

A reporter of ANA said The security forces of Myanmar is supported by other units of government troops and extremist Buddhists raided several neighborhoods inhabited by Muslims in the city of Maungdaw and fired toward the local population which resulted in casualties and injuries in both Kawarbil neighborhood and Besara neighborhood.

The correspondent added that the government suspected the presence of Muslim rebels against government repression and arbitrary decisions and began a random campaign to instill fear in the hearts of Rohingya pointing out that locals believe that the extremist Buddhists are trying to provoke sectarian violence again and derail the peace efforts between the ethnic groups.

Recent images have shown that the city of Maungdaw is empty around public squares and markets, residents are scared because of the stringent security measures and curfews.
