Myanmar authorities began to train young people from ethnic “Rakhine” Buddhists for the formation of the militias responsible for the defense of Buddhists in the troubled areas of Arakan State, attacking those what they call the Muslim militants.
The move came amid security unrest in Maungdaw city of Arakan state, where the army waged a major military campaign against Rohingya Muslim civilians in search of militants, according to its claims, since October 9 with resulted in death of more than 400 Rohingya people and burned down more than 1250 homes according to the picture observed by Human Rights Watch via satellites.
For its part, the International Commission of Jurists has criticized these plans from Myanmar, describing catastrophic.
And said that “the establishment of an armed and trained community  is accountable to one force in the midst of serious ethnic tensions and violence is a recipe for disaster and the worsening situation for Human Rights.”
It is noteworthy that Myanmar announced by the chief police Brigadier General Thura San Win earlier this month to form a militia to strengthen defenses along the border between Myanmar and Bangladesh, according to Win, some 120 young Buddhist residents shall be recruited to work under the supervision of the border guards after they undergo training in order to protect their areas and villages of their own.
