Heavy winds sweeping the Miyang area of ​​central Myanmar’s Magway region over the weekend have destroyed some 18 houses, the official New Global Light reported on Tuesday.

The wind broke the roofs of houses in the village of Kaiok Fu. Local authorities assisted families.

The victims of the storm were moved from their stricken homes to safe places for repair.

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology warned of more thunderstorms and strong winds in the pre-monsoon period from mid-April to mid-May, calling on citizens to be vigilant.

The Meteorological Bureau also warned of high daytime temperatures during that period.

According to a previous report, two people were killed by lightning in the past two weeks when a thunderstorm hit the areas of Ayeyarwady, Pago and various regions respectively.
