Approximately 400 people attended the annual convention since it was created in 2013 as result of ongoing genocide in Myanmar particularly for Rohingya who are facing daily persecutions based on their religion and background.

Well know Burmese scholar Dr. Maung Zarni and former Burma’s Member of Parliament U Shwe Maung of Rohingya background and Burmese Muslim activist of Civil rights movement Htway Lwin Oo were present in the convention and each of them delivered valuable information about ongoing genocide in Burma.

Professor Greg Stanton from Genocide Watch and former UN. Human rights officer Mr. Thomas Quintana provided their exclusive input to convention via video conference.

According to the Professor what is happening to the Rohingya people is a GENOCIDE. 1982 Citizenship Act is a tool of genocide. Aung San Suu Kyi, a great symbol of democracy, is now part of the genocidal problem by even lobbying the international community from calling the Rohingya by their own chosen name. She has in effect classified the Rohingya out of the country’s system.

Mr. Thomas Quintana conditions in Arakan State is getting worse day after day and Rohingyas are without basic needs of food and medical care. Doctors without borders was banned from Burma due to Rohingya receiving their basic health care.

Thomas concluded by saying there is need to be on going pressure to current NLD government and Daw Aung Su Kyi until Rohingya rights are restored and recognized.
